Research and Planning: Audience Theories

The Hypodermic Theory
- When a message is intended through a film and the audience directly interpret and accept that.

The Cultivation Theory
- The more time people spend watching/living in the TV world the more they believe it is real.

The Desensitisation Theory
- The more time people watch so many films of a particular genre e.g horror that they become immune.

The Modelling/Copycat Theory
- Where people blame their actions on what they have seen on TV/film.

The Uses and Gratifications Theory
- Where a viewer takes out what the need from a film, and reject what they don't.
