Research and Planning: Film Magazine Analysis

The genre of the Magazine is a Film Magazine, which is a well-known Horror based Genre Magazine. The audience can understand this by the Masthead ''GOREZONE'' which instantly signifies the genre as the actual word is related to Horror, and also the Font is very bold and signifies 'old fashioned' horror fonts as it appears very retro and old Hollywood. The colour of the Masthead is also red, which could signify blood, alarm, danger and just horror in general. Unusually for a Magazine, it doesn't follow the 3 Colour rule as it uses 4: but 3 of the 4 colours are the colours of the American Flag (Red, Blue and White), the other being Black. I think the Four colours used work to its advantage because if it was the 3 colours of the American Flag it wouldn't specify the genre Horror, so I feel the black adds more depth and represents the darkness of the Magazine's content.

The Banner 'The World's Most Upmarket Horror Entertainment Magazine'' is in a small bold font at the top of the Magazine. This shows that the Magazine is a very popular genre magazine which is internationally known through the words ''the world'' and ''upmarket''. The medium close-up image of the girl represents her that she could be shown as a good character through the high-key lighting making her appear attractive and through her casual wear costume however her pose and facial expressions represent her as a strong and misleading character as she looks quite psychotic. The blood on her is also contrasting as the audience can't decide whether it is her blood and she is the victim or the blood is off a person she has murdered; this creates a mystery around the character which intrigues the audience to the film AND the magazine to find out more which could show the Narrative of the Film.

The issue number, barcode and date all show that the magazine is a true magazine. The main coverline is ''Natasha Lyonne'' which is showing the main article in the magazine is about the woman on the front cover. Smaller coverlines can be seen around the left hand side of the magazine in a smaller font which shows the other important topics. The Target Audience is Horror fans so it is aimed at an audience, I'd say about aged 15-35 as it is aimed at fans of the genre and Horror films are mainly aimed at an audience aged between this mark.
